A member of the Matsumurae group. This cultivar's deeply divided, seven lobed, serrated leaves are purplish-red with an undertone of green. New foliage is yellow-orange with fine pubescent covering until maturity. Leaf stalks and seeds are bright red. This tree reaches 20ft. tall and 16ft. wide in the right growing conditions. The name means "purple of the East".
